Instead of physically visiting hundreds of booths in a crowded convention center, job seekers can take a virtual tour of companies looking to hire veterans and disabled veterans.
Beginning April 29, and running on demand for the next 30 days, Milicruit.com is offering a virtual career fair that pairs qualified former military personnel with companies in need of the talent and experience of veterans.
Milicruit’s career fair will be available free online to veterans and disabled veterans 24 hours a day. The service, which organizers say is beneficial in helping veterans re-enter civilian life, eliminates the need for former service personnel to travel to a one-day event that often requires hours of standing in line to submit a resume.
At Milicruit.com, veterans can complete a registration form that includes such information as their military branch, discharge date and rank. Users can also attach a resume that can be viewed by potential employers.
The virtual career fair will enable veterans to visit employer booths; view job postings; view company videos/presentations/Webcasts; chat with company representatives; and participate in video interviews.
The online service helps employers comply with the Veteran’s Employment Initiative Act, signed into law in November by President Barack Obama. The law provides incentives to companies that hire veterans and disabled veterans.
“Veterans have served and sacrificed in defense of our nation. When they complete their service, we must do everything in our power to assist them in re-entering civilian life and finding employment,” President Obama wrote. “Government as well as private employers should play a prominent role in helping veterans who may be struggling to find jobs.”
Employers can benefit from the online service because it gives them the opportunity to recruit talented veterans in one event from all across the country.
The virtual career fair is limited to 75 industry-leading employers, which will pay a fee of $1,000 per booth, with additional sponsorship opportunities for those organizations wanting more-prominent placement.
“With the unemployment rate for veterans nearing 15% in some areas, we felt compelled to develop a virtual environment that would allow employers and veterans, especially disabled veterans, the ability to interact as if in person, but from the comfort and convenience of their home or office,” says Kevin O’Brien, Milicruit’s chief executive officer.
Registration and participation are free for veterans.
